Action against the small-print merchants.
Many consumers are losing out from not realising they are paying a regular subscription they think has come to an end.
It’s all too easy to skip the small print. But that can allow suppliers to extend a contract through a ‘continuous payment authority’.
And last year Citizens Advice reported up to 2 million people had difficulty cancelling continuous payments which were often linked to an online purchase.
Now the government will require suppliers to tell consumers when a payment is to be taken.
At Citizens Advice Reigate & Banstead we hope the new requirement will quickly stop people losing money by falling into a subscription trap. Our trained advisers are here to help with consumer problems whatever the cause.
