Everyone is at risk of being scammed. Our campaign aims to spread the word as widely as possible.
But older people can be particularly harmed by fraud.
Research shows those over-70 experience most harm from a range of scams but tend to fall victim most to phone and mail scams. Age UK found that more than a fifth of older people who think they’ve been targeted by scammers didn’t tell anyone because they felt too embarrassed.
So, our key campaign message to families and friends is:
Please make sure older people you know when to be suspicious. If you spot a scam that might target them, talk to them about it to raise their awareness. In particular, talk about about phone and mail scams.
