CAB continues to work for best outcomes.
The Redhill and Reigate Courts will close on 23 March. Local people facing housing possession orders because of rent or mortgage arrears will then have to attend court in Guildford, Staines or Crawley.
For 15 years the Citizens Advice Reigate & Banstead court desk has helped these defendants present their side of the case. Also during that time, our staff and volunteers have built up a special trust with housing officers and providers.
Together we often find a solution that’s better for everyone.
The closures mean we may no longer be able to help in court. But we’ll still be working hard to help all sides get the best outcome.
Elaine Parr, Citizens Advice Reigate & Banstead District Manager, says:
“I think what makes the difference is we have good relationships with people who ask us for help and housing managers.
“Cases can be difficult but managers tell us they know we have the real interests of tenants at heart and we always try to find the best way for both sides.”
This has also been recognised by court officials including judges who are always happy for CAB representatives to clarify case details on behalf of clients.

NOTE In autumn 2015 Citizens Advice Reigate & Banstead responded to the consultation on court closures by Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service. We said that for some defendants the closures would mean justice reduced or denied and hardship due to the difficulty of getting to the new courts and the high cost of public transport – Consultation Response 05/10/15.
