Reigate and Redhill courts close today Thursday March 23.
The Citizens Advice Reigate & Banstead court desk has helped local people present their case in the courts for the past 15 years. Many face housing possession orders and losing their homes due to rent or mortgage arrears
Elaine Parr, District Manager, Citizens Advice Reigate & Banstead, says:
“The closures mean we will no longer be able to help local people attending court. However we’ll still be here to help all sides get the best possible outcome. People should contact our Adviceline on 03444 111 444 to try and resolve the issues.
“We’ve always had good working relationships with Court personnel, local housing managers and others who can signpost residents to the agencies that can help them.
“Cases are often complex but with everyone working together to try and help residents we will always make progress towards the best outcome. Homelessness is something we must avoid wherever possible.”

In Autumn 2015 Citizens Advice Reigate & Banstead responded to the consultation on court closures by Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service. We said for some defendants the closures would mean justice reduced or denied and hardship due to the difficulty of getting to the new courts and the high cost of public transport – Consultation Response 05/10/15.
