The August theme of Redhill Library’s popular coffee morning was local history. Paul Collins of Holmesdale Natural History Club led a fascinating walk through the club’s activities.
Members are mostly amateur naturalists and local historians with a special interest in their home county.
Founded in 1857, the Holmesdale has always organised walks for members to record aspects of the Surrey landscape. It still does and the club museum ‘behind the wall’ in Reigate is evidence of their enthusiasm.
Library coffee drinkers were keen too (main picture). Victorian maps and items from the club’s collection were of particular interest.
Helping people to know and care about their neighbourhood has never been more important. Holmesdale sees that and so do Redhill Library and Citizens Advice.
At CARBS we're delighted to help promote the Library's coffee mornings on the first Wednesday of each month. There's a shared enthusiasm between the problem-solvers and the world of information and culture.
