Commenting on a league table showing the progress of energy firms moving customers off Standard Variable Tariffs, Citizens Advice said 13m were stuck on these tariffs and more needed to be done.
Industry regulator Ofgem said it would implement the government’s proposed energy cap while urging firms to act now to reduce bills.
It accused some firms of replacing SVTs with fixed-price deals that ‘may not always offer good value’.
Energy UK, the industry lobby, welcomed a 2% fall in customers on SVTs. But the group’s chief executive was later reported* conceding that the industry’s efforts to improve things had come too late.
