Requests for help with benefits soared last week, as the country came to terms with the meaning of lockdown.
As our chart* shows, people particularly wanted to know about universal credit.
With job and money worries growing exponentially, many who had never thought about claiming benefits, realised they might need to.
Fortunately, our team of dedicated volunteers and staff coped with the demand, while formally closing offices and arranging for everyone to work at home. It was, as Advice Services Manager Mandy said, “a hectic week”.
Our experience was shared nationwide.
The Citizens Advice national website recorded its busiest week ever** with over 2.2 million views. Bills, rent arrears and benefits accounted for the most viewed web pages.
