Planning to help.
Surrey Suicide Prevention Group exists to help health professionals and others work together to identify and support those at risk. Meeting this week in Leatherhead the group continued to develop its new suicide prevention plan for the county.
The group’s members include representatives of clinical commissioning groups, Surrey and Borders Partnership, Surrey County Council, Citizens Advice, the prison service and the churches. It reports to the Mental Health Partnership.
After attending the meeting on behalf of Citizens Advice Reigate & Banstead District Manager Elaine Parr said the plan was an important step forward.
“We all need to be aware of how we can help and the plan should make communication a lot more effective. The wide membership of the Suicide Prevention Group is a real advantage.”
Note. There were 6581 suicides in the UK in 2014. The female suicide rate rose 8.3 per cent, the male rate was down 5.6 per cent. However men remain 3 times more likely to take their own lives than women. Suicide Facts and Figures 2016, Samaritans
