Local requests for help with redundancy and other employment issues have showed a big rise in June and July to date over the same period in 2019. Many clients wanted advice about the Covid-19 furlough scheme.
These Reigate and Banstead figures reflect a sombre national picture.
According to official statistics the number of people out of work and claiming work-related benefits rose 23% in May and has more than doubled since the start of the lockdown.
On 16 July the Office for National Statistics showed nearly 2/3 of a million people had lost their jobs since lockdown. On the same day national Citizens Advice said the network was taking a call for help with redundancy every 2 minutes.
