Covid19 has created new problems, but is also making familiar ones harder to deal with.
Washing machine grant
A single mother with long-term physical and mental health issues recently moved to temporary accommodation which turned out to be damp. With little money, she has found it difficult to create a satisfactory home for her baby and herself. For example, friends living some distance away were taking her washing from the doorstep and returning it the same way.
Our adviser Maureen helped the client successfully apply for a charitable grant to buy a washer/dryer (necessary because of the damp). She was delighted. And with Maureen offering support with a PIP application, her anxiety is under control too.
Food bank help
Lockdown has been particularly hard for a single mother with 3 young children. She has health problems and is finding it hard to make ends meet. She is shielding but has to go shopping with the children who have not been welcome instore.
Our adviser Jayne was able to provide a food voucher to pre-empt the next traumatic shopping trip. She then helped arrange weekly deliveries of food and essentials from the food bank. The client was extremely grateful. She and her family would no longer have to worry about this unexpected lockdown problem.
