Health problems can be complicated and not just in a medical sense. You or your friend or family member may be feeling poorly but also unsure how to get the care you need. What are you entitled to from the NHS? How do you complain if something is going wrong?
At Citizens Advice we can help with information about your rights, the costs of care, and the complaints process. We can also direct you to other agencies for more specialist help.
NHS care We explain what is available free of charge. Find out about patients’ rights and, if it becomes necessary, how to make a complaint about the NHS or social care.
Costs Most NHS care is free but there are charges for some services. If you qualify, help is available with prescription and dental charges, sight problems and other services, including continuing care.
Discrimination If you’re treated unfairly because of who you are when receiving health or care services, it may be unlawful discrimination. and you may be able to do something about it. We can advise on different types of discrimination and common situations.
Complaints It’s essential to ask yourself the right questions when thinking of making a complaint about the NHS or social care. We can help you decide what you want to achieve and understand the process. Our information also covers the organisations you can go to when you have a problem.
