In her New Year message our Chief Executive Andrea Dunhill sets out CARBS priorities for the year ahead. Among them is a new focus on equality, diversity and inclusion. It’s one of our New Starts for 2021.
Andrea wants us to look with fresh eyes at the disadvantages experienced by too many of our residents. This must go further than adopting an off-the-shelf corporate-style ‘mission’ statement.
Our Trustees agree and have appointed a special EDI Committee reporting to the board. Among the new group’s terms of reference is a commitment to Stand Up for Equality. This is a national Citizens Advice strategy summed up as:
Citizens Advice believes that our common humanity makes us equal in worth, dignity and rights. This is the definition adopted in 2004 and it still holds true today.
Andrea points to the importance of Citizens Advice being relevant and accessible to all residents: “That’s the overriding aim. We will continue to work towards an increased understanding of the needs and the application of the rights of everyone in our community.”
