National group expects action to fill the gap when courts close.
Last week’s government decision to close 86 courts in locations across the country has provoked a strong response from Citizens Advice at national and local level.
In a statement national Citizens Advice called for use of technology such as video links to ensure people have access to justice without travelling long distances. It also proposes exploring other community locations as replacements for existing court facilities.
Significantly Citizens Advice suggests the possibility of an improved service. If alternatives are well-organised the “stress and difficulty” of attending court in person might be reduced.
Citizens Advice Reigate & Banstead is disappointed the borough will be left without court facilities when the axe falls in January: Justice needs a home.
We have asked the Ministry of Justice and HM Courts and Tribunals Service to work with us and other groups with local experience to find a way forward.
