Partnerships with key local groups feature strongly in our annual report for the year 2017-18, published this month.
There is special gratitude for the central role played by Reigate and Banstead Borough Council in support of our core operating capacity.
The trustees report success in projects for Surrey County Council (Healthwatch Surrey and Local Assistance Scheme); Raven Housing Trust (debt advice and debt relief orders); Community Foundation for Surrey (older persons advice in Horley); and Access to Justice Foundation (provision of court desk service).
The report expresses thanks to these organisations for the confidence they place in us, and to our volunteers – without their commitment to the well-being of neighbours the local Citizens Advice would not exist.
Richard Hoffman, Chair of Trustees, said:
“There were many achievements and client successes in 2017-18. However, it was also a challenging year, due partly to uncertainty about premises in Redhill and partly to funding constraints, both of which impacted upon our resources and service levels. These challenges remain and could increase with continuing financial pressures and the full roll-out of Universal Credit.
“The need for free independent advice and our kind of local service is growing as society changes and public policy looks more to voluntary support in many service areas. To respond we must secure a long-term base and build up our financial position and we’re working hard on both tasks.
“As a small independent charity we’re totally dependent on local funds whether in the form of operating grants or payment for work we’re naturally well-placed to carry out.”
