Advice and policy.
“Everything will stay the same until new laws are made.”
That’s the essential advice from Citizens Advice: Brexit: How it affects you. Anyone who has been told their rights have changed since the vote should contact their local office.
The referendum also puts policy-makers on the spot.
The result was obviously not just about EU membership. Many commentators have said up to half the population feel ‘left behind’ – the benefits of economic recovery have passed them by.
Citizens Advice is for everyone, whatever their problem. Day-in, day-out, in bureaux, online and on the phone we help people in every income group.
But the help our volunteers give clients on low incomes is appreciated by all citizens as a mark of a decent society.
Among everything spoken and written about Brexit a few thoughts about social justice from a respected source* are worth noting:
“My greatest fear is that Brexit negotiations, financial turmoil and the contest to succeed David Cameron mean that poverty risks being put on the back burner. We had expected a life chances strategy from the government in July, and it is precisely these important social justice reforms that we cannot afford to abandon as well as a relentless focus on jobs and investment.”
